Featured Soaper - The Soap Co.
The Soap Co isn’t your usual business, it’s a social enterprise helping people in the surrounding area. We spoke with Jason, the manager on a recent visit, who explained this to us further.
The Soap Co. was formed in Keswick in the UK’s Lake District. They create opportunities for local disabled and disadvantaged people, making up more than 70% of the workforce. Through this social enterprise they aim to boost confidence, skills and independence. Enabling people to progress their career further within The Soap Co or move on to mainstream employment elsewhere.
‘At The Soap Co – it isn’t just what we do, but where, why and how we do it that goes into making our products so special’
Jason and his team spend time researching current trends, popular colours and fragrances. The shop supplies the people of the Lake District with high quality soap products. They are extremely passionate about their beautiful surroundings and use it as their main inspiration for fragrances and ingredients. They are environmentally conscious and take steps to ensure none of their products are tested on animals.
One of their newest products, Felt Pebble Soaps, takes inspiration right from the heart of Keswick. Using a few small pebbles from the Lake Greeter, they create moulds. These moulds are then filled with soap in order to create the pebble, local felted Herdwick wool from a nearby farmer, is wrapped around the soap which provides exfoliation.
We really enjoyed visiting Jason and his team and hope their social enterprise remains a success! To find out more head to their website here.
