About The Role

You will perform a range of mechanical activities on a three week shift rotation covering 24 hours per day, 5 days per week (core hours 37.5 hours per week). You will have excellent hydraulic and pneumatic knowledge and methodical fault-finding abilities to support continuous production performance carried out in a safe, controlled, and efficient manner. The key deliverable of the role is to drive forward the maintenance/technical standards across the SU operation.

Role Responsibilities

General duties include:

» Repairing medium-sized rotating equipment including vacuum drying plants, pumps, agitators, and gear boxes.

» Installing and/or repairing pipework, utilising TIG/MMA welding.

» Carrying out light fabrication work).

» Assisting when required with the daily and weekly operation of the steam boiler plant.

» Assisting where appropriate with the engineering environmental monitoring procedures.

» Carrying out general maintenance where appropriate.


Safety & the environment duties include:

» Responsible for completing Near Miss reports, Incident Events and, Workplace Observations as required.

» Support accident and environmental non-conformance investigations across the SU as appropriate.

» Understand the importance of Process Safety Systems and develop the appropriate skill to become fully operational.

» Understand the importance of behavioural safety.

» Understand and enforce relevant site safety policies & rules including safe isolation.

» Understand risk assessment to contribute to Task Hazard Analysis and engineering change procedure.

» Understand environmental impacts and the importance of control measures.

» Understand and comply with site waste management procedures.

» Support energy and waste reduction activities.


Quality duties include:

» Support for RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and Improvement activities: support technical countermeasures to prevent recurrence of Quality Events - this should also extend to maintenance activities.

» Support the Quality team in delivering technical improvements.


Performance maintenance duties include:

» Carry out prioritised work requests and future jobs.

» Record Breakdown detail in Breakdown Log for trend analysis.

» Support planning and fabrications of improvements in time for downtime intervals.

» Be involved in planned downtime, delivering prioritised improvements in identified areas.

» Support and ensure servicing levels across SU are meet.

» Support best practice improvements across areas.

» Support major breakdowns in areas as required.

» Ensure excellent internal communications between Engineering Shift Teams.

» Support performance improvement activities.

» Responsible for maintaining professional standards of housekeeping within the Engineering Workshop (e.g., service bay, craft benches) through a process of routine cleaning/organisation.

» Responsible for supporting GMP improvement activities.

» Responsible for ensuring the completion of GMP audits (own) and using results to focus improvements on Workplace Organisation.

» Support technical input into new installations.

» Support with completion of snag lists during new equipment installations.


People & team elements duties include:

» Take responsibility for arriving and leaving at required times for shift and ensuring a full handover with oncoming crew takes place.

» Taking responsibility for regulating breaks and mealtimes on shift such that the shift team supports the ongoing operation.

» Reporting any absence to Shift Manager following Absence Procedures.

» Training (giving and receiving).

» Creating One Point Lessons (OPLs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPSs) to pass on knowledge to colleagues.

» Keeping up to date with newly created OPLs/SOPs and log training completion.

» Attending agreed training sessions and ensuring that personal training records are kept up to date.

» Completing training programs on new items of production machinery.

» Contribute to developing training material for production areas as appropriate.

Skills & Competencies

You will have a minimum of 3 years engineering experience.

You will have a flair for projects with the ability to work well within a project framework.

You will have the ability to identify and drive continuous improvement opportunities, an analytical thinker with people skills!

Location

You will be based at our Leeds office and production site.
